President Donald Trump has signed two executive declarations on Thursday March 8, setting new import duties of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum which will go into effect on Friday, March 23 2018.
Only Canada and Mexico are excluded from the application of new tariffs.
Other countries that want to be exempted from the action, including the European Union, will have to negotiate deals to address the US National Security concerns during the following weeks.
The categories of goods affected by such declarations are defined in the basis of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
No additional communication has been issued from the Customs Agency or other organizations yet.
